Targa May 2022

With the car packed and Google Maps at the ready, our AB FAB team made the journeys south to the May 2022 5-day Targa to fundraise for our wish service. This Targa covered some amazing roads starting in New Plymouth and finishing in Havelock North via Whanganui! Many thanks to the Ultimate Rally Group Targa NZ for being so loyal to our cause and allowing us to again be part of this incredible event.

We loved having long time Race4Life supporters Graham and Chrissy MacDonald, Jonnie Moore and Rob Hitchin with us. With their endless energy and enthusiasm, it is not a surprise that the event was a success, raising $16,000!

Each day the team greeted the rally cars, supplying them with treats including the generously donated Whittaker’s Chocolate Lovers peanut slabs and MineraleAlpine water. The other treat for the participants was the world famous Race4Life gold coin sausage sizzle that proved a hit yet again! Thank you Foodstuffs North Island, for not only donating the BBQ food, but also donating the meals that keep the team running during the event. Also, a big shout out to Jonnie for allowing us to use his Mobile home and BBQing up a storm.

No Targa is complete without the Tour Sheriffs, who impose driver “fines” that go to Race4Life. Ross Johnson of Global Security Solutions Limited took this role very seriously, and along with the slogan “Dob a Mate” helped raise a tremendous sum from the Tour drivers. Thanks Targa Tour, we had so much fun learning of the ways you got yourselves into trouble with the Sheriff!

The event was capped off with the Prizegiving, which was the perfect opportunity to hold our raffle draws and auction. Highlands – Experience the Exceptional Motorsport Park kindly donated an incredible hot lap experience for auction and our raffles included a pack of 100% locally made and donated Chemz Ltd products and a luxury Hawke’s Bay escape, again donated by our wonderful supporters in that area. We are so overwhelmed by the kindness and willingness to help displayed by these businesses who are all listed below. Please support them if you can. Congratulations to our prize and auction winners!
