Wiki Te Tau is a 61 year old mother and grandmother with a lung cancer diagnosis.
Wiki’s wish was to visit Stewart Island to experience the beauty and quiet and make wonderful memories with husband Bill. In Wiki’s own words, she wanted to see the “end of the chain”.
Thanks to Realnz and Argyle Apartments • Stewart Island, Wiki and Bill arrived safely and were well looked after. The ferry journey from Bluff was made special by some wonderful bird sightings and plenty of sunshine, whilst the views from their apartment overlooking Half Moon Bay, were simply stunning.
Stewart Island did not disappoint either, offering pristine beaches, gorgeous birdsong, beautiful sunsets and the peace and tranquillity Wiki sought.
While away Wiki and Bill got to enjoy the very best from the sea. The amazing team at Leask Bay Charters took great care of the couple and provided some delicious seafood for them to enjoy during their stay and the first day ended with a delicious crayfish at the South Sea Hotel.
Wiki described returning home after their magical time away “bittersweet, as the lifestyle on Rakiura is quiet, relaxing and idyllic, particularly seeing Kaka and hearing the Tui Song”.
In Wiki’s own words, “A big shout out to Rachael (RACE4LIFE), Nicola McCleod (Real NZ, Real NZ The Redshed), Liz (Argyle Apartments), Bonnie and Fluff (Leask Bay Charters), Helen Cave (South Sea Hotel) without their generous support I would not have the photos and memories. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR MAKING A DREAM A REALITY”.
Race4Life is very grateful to all that were involved in making Wiki’s dream a reality also.
