Olive Guy and her husband Ross have been together 34 years, married for 28, and on Tuesday last week they celebrated their life together in a special ceremony “on top of the world” at the magnificent Eagles Nest in Russell. This beautiful woman – a wife, mother of 5 sons, and grandmother of 6 – was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer in May which has now metastasised and spread to her lungs and bones. Her special wish was to have a beautiful wedding-style ceremony at this incredible location, surrounded by her loving whanau and friends.
Home is Kaeo in the far north where the family are beef farmers, and also sheep shearing contractors throughout the region. They are a close family and nothing epitomises this more than when Olive lost all her hair the family shaved their heads also.
Dressed in a beautiful gown gifted by Astra Bridal in Auckland, Olive, with her beloved husband by her side, celebrated their marriage and their life together in the Rahimoana Villa which has spectacular 360 degree views of the islands and surrounding landscapes. Eagles Nest has always been a dream destination for her and the family are so incredibly grateful to Tony Acland, and his wonderful team, for making this day a possibility. Every special moment was captured by local photographer Jess Burges Photographer who was incredibly generous with her time and expertise. Holding on to these precious memories is of huge importance to this close whanau now.
Of course a wedding isn’t a wedding without cake and flowers, and these were kindly provided by Cake In The Box from Waipapa, and Puttsgreen Florist from Kerikeri. It’s those little touches that can make a lady feel even more special on her magical day. Tony’s generosity went even further and the couple spent the night in the First Light Temple Villa at Eagles Nest, waking up this morning to eat breakfast in Olive’s dream destination.
