Miriam Bankier is a very courageous, and independent woman from Auckland, who has been battling with cancer for many years. She now has secondary cancer which has metastasised in her lymph nodes and spine.
With a bit of encouragement from Dove House Hospice Miriam put forward her wish to Race4Life.
Her wish was to travel on the TranzAlpine with her sister Elizabeth, who lives in Palmerston North.
To see the Southern Alps in all their glory was something Miriam dearly wanted to do.
With the help of some of our generous supporters, Miriam travelled down to Christchurch on the 31st August.
The Sudima Christchurch Airport, gifted the sister’s meals and accommodation whilst in Christchurch. Café’ Dp1 and Cafe Bunsen treated Miriam and Elizabeth to lunch while they are in transit. KiwiRail kindly gifted the TransAlpine tickets and the Ashley Hotel in Greymouth hosted the sisters while in Greymouth.
Corporate Cabs Christchurch, Greymouth Taxi’s, Co-op Taxis Auckland, and Welcome Aboard Christchurch (with a scenic tram ride) filled all the transportation gaps.
To top off her experiences, Miriam enjoyed a helicopter ride thanks to Oceania Helicopters and lunch gifted by Miko Café in the Auckland Botanical Gardens.
The icing on the cake was an opportunity to spend time in Muriwai, a place Miriam considers her spiritual home. Her morning there was shared with good friends, Gordon and Elizabeth, and was made all the more special by the addition of lunch, kindly gifted by SandDunz Beach Café.
Thank you to everyone for your generosity and compassion in helping Miriam achieve her wish List!!
