Melany Johnstone and her husband William headed to Christchurch to celebrate a long overdue honeymoon – and to enjoy their first trip away without children. This loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother is suffering from metastatic breast cancer and her wish was to share a special adventure with William whom she married late last year after 26 years together.
Melany watched a documentary on the TranzAlpine Express train journey and knew instantly this is something amazing she wanted to do. She was captivated with the beauty of the scenery and wanted to experience something truly meaningful with her husband. Today her wish comes true as they catch the TranzAlpine train to Moana, stay overnight at Lake Brunner, then catch the train back to Christchurch on Saturday.
In her own words said “the journey we just experienced was everything we wished for, and more”. From the views at the top of the Christchurch Gondola, the train trip itself, the beauty of Lake Brunner, and the hospitality of everyone involved in Melany’s wish, the couple felt the whole experience was “nothing short of amazing” and a dream come true.
